Traffic

Hey now, no real world traffic complaints here. The new site has managed to eat through 14 gigabytes of traffic. Lovely. Current estimates put the site munching on 1 gigabyte a day, which is pretty big for a site which only launched several days ago. Someone might have to go on a diet.

About Time!

It took years and years as well as many, many failed website launches but I'm happy to annouce the most recent site I've built is actually taking off. 15,000 unique visitors in the first 48 hours! It is still 'beta' so I won't be linking to it just yet... but once the final set of features are rolled out (sorting, voting and uploading) expect a lengthy post.

YouTube Data API Defeated

So I've been working on a project recently that required taking a YouTube URL and figuring out what category the video is on YouTube. Didn't seem to hard at first after all the YouTube Data API easily allows anyone to access that kind of information. Of course it requires PHP 5 and... well the server I'm working on is still chugging along on good old PHP 4. Long story short, one outdated RSS parsing library, a few ugly functions and a can of Red Bull later I managed to slap something together. As a result the secret project once again continues... and hopefully will be finished this century.

MIA

I really suck at updating. Sorry.

I was cleaning up the server and I stumbled across this...

Wow

So I really am pretty awful at keeping this thing updated. I'm blaming it on that secret project I've been working on... also I've been kinda busy.

Thumbnails!

So I've been kicking around this idea for the last couple of weeks of turning all my activity on the web into bite sized screenshots, thumbnail fashion. It turned out okay (you can see it on the right). I used a combination of Yahoo! Pipes, Thumbalizer, PHP and my brain.

Mondays on Tuesdays

Today really felt like Monday. Oh well. Anyway, during the lunch break I spotted a pretty cool video from Radiohead I thought I'd share. You can view it by clicking here... or you can click this really long link if your into clicking longer links and stuff.

Also I really need to code up something to interface with the tumblr API because importing my blog posts by RSS is just lazy on my part.

Those That Shall Not Be Named

So just as I was going to surprise Roche with the fact that I'd grabbed the domain name thosethatshallnotbenamed.com I found out that corporate was censoring us from ever again discussing those glorious specimens of the road. Thanks Clear Channel.

It is a complete outrage... but are so are lots of things which are far worse. Anyway, we may not be able to mention them on dc101.com or on-air but that doesn't stop this post from becoming a tribute. "Those That Shall Not Be Named" you will always remain in our hearts, our minds and our internet browsers.

Yeah, Yeah

Sorry for the lack of posts. I've been working on a new site. This one is going to take a bit longer than my usual projects. I'm building everything from scratch from the login system to user authentication.

Once it is up and running and it has passed some minor bug testing as well as XSS and other vunerability tests I'll let you all have a crack at it!

Friday!

Wait. It is Thursday... (it feels like Friday) but as you all know it is the 4th.. wait I mean the 3rd. Tomorrow is the 4th and that means we all get to light off fireworks, eat lots of food and pay respects to the good ol' US of A. Happy 4th!

Say no to traffic

Got a sweet new place outside of D.C. in Crystal City recently. I can't move in just yet... it'll be a few weeks but I can't wait. No more 2 1/2 hour commutes as I'll be able to hop on the Metro and take it right to work. Well almost. I still have to walk from the Metro to the office... but you know what I meant. Right?

So this post is to partially test audio and also a little plug for a new Podcast I've been working on with Travis Bagwell. If you like the audio you just heard make sure you check it out!

Welcome Readers

I've just switched the FeedBurner feed to point to the new XML file where my posts will be coming from. What does this mean for you? Nothing. But I thought I'd let you all know.

You can still expect technology laden posts, code snippets and random insights. Thanks for sticking with me!

Almost Done!

The new site is almost done. Few minor additions and it'll be good to go.

Dave Matthews Band

So I got a free pair of tickets from work to see DMB at Nissan Pavilion. Pretty excited. This will be my first time seeing them live! Now all I have to do is decide who to take.

Zektek is back!

I took the site down for awhile. Why? I didn't feel like managing it... but it is back! This time Zektek is powered by tumblr. Which means I don't have to worry about managing a CMS or dealing with patch after patch with popular blogging platforms like WordPress.
